Esteem’s Modern Apprenticeship Programme leads to Fast Track Career Progression
SJS employee Ally Flockhart has accredited Esteem’s Modern Apprenticeship programmes to his quick career progression.
Alongside his two colleagues Derek and Vinny, Ally started his Esteem journey on our SVQ Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in Construction Site Supervision. In addition to finding the programme both enjoyable and informative, all three candidates were eager to build upon their management skills and to gain their CSCS Black Card.
With the support of their company SJS – who are a well-established interior fit out, refurbishment and bespoke manufactured joinery business, based in Edinburgh, they went on to progress to, and complete their SVQ Level 4 Modern Apprenticeship in Construction Site Management.
Due to Ally’s eagerness and motivation to continue his development, he thrived on our SVQ Level 4 in Construction Site Management (CSM) Programme. This programme is great for candidates – like Ally – who are eager to build upon their management skills and to qualify for a CSCS Black Card. The CSM programme consists of 5 full day workshops, which cover both the knowledge and understanding aspects of the SVQ, including learning about site management processes and paperwork. This aid’s the candidate’s workload and helps them manage their teams more efficiently.
In addition to this, Ally also received six 1:1 sessions and a site visit with Assessor Cheryl at a recent job completed for Edinburgh University. Project Manager Ally, accredits the amazing support he received from Cheryl, to his success.
Ally tells us:
“All the assessors are first class. They are more than happy to assist. My assessor Cheryl played a big part in my success on the course. The assessors are very friendly and happy to work through any issues you have. They can accommodate everything, from attending site visits while on night-shift, to sending over forms at the weekend.”
We believe a huge part of our company success is due to the amazing support our Assessors give our candidates. It is great to hear such positive feedback from Ally.
Ally tells us about some of the challenges he overcame throughout the CSM programme:
“For me, one of my biggest challenges was talking in front of the class. I found it very awkward at first, however, I soon felt at ease. It quickly became natural to answer and ask questions in front of everyone.”
Ally finished his SVQ Level 4 earlier this year and he is now hungrier than ever to continue his learning. He is now a Project Manager at SJS and hopes to start the SVQ Level 5 Strategic Director Programme (SDP) soon.
Below, he tells us why he continued his learning through Esteem:
“This was my first experience working with a training provider. I love everything about Esteem. From the people you meet at workshops, to the staff in the office, they are all very helpful and friendly. I am hungry to be better each day and Esteem is a massive part of why my career has progressed so quickly.
The workshops for me, were a chance to listen and learn. Not only from Esteem, but from other guys doing similar jobs who share their experiences. Everyone I have met at every workshop has been motivated and keen to learn and that is contagious.
From my experience up to now, Esteem has been a fantastic company from top to bottom. They are a great team and Trudy is extremely lucky to have such a great squad. Nothing was ever a hassle. We were all treated very well and obviously the food in the hotel was first class. Can’t say enough positive things about the company and the course.”
Esteem can’t wait to see Ally continue his development though our programmes. We hope as he advances within his company, he encourages his own colleagues to develop their learning.
