CITB Scotland NVQ 6 Celebration Event
At the end of last week, while you were finishing up your Friday afternoon, a group of us gathered just outside Glasgow to celebrate a fantastic achievement, as we saw a selection of our CITB Scotland NVQ6 candidates graduate. 60 candidates took part in the programme, which was 80% funded by CITB and in partnership with the 5 major Sottish Federations (CECA Scotland, FMB Scotland, Scottish Building Federation, Scottish Plant Owners Association and Homes for Scotland)
With an introduction by Graham Barn from CECA, Maureen Douglas from Forster Roofing and the board of CITB Scotland opened the evening with a speech which highlighted how truly impressive this group of people are. Maureen likened their 9 month NVQ6 programme to the equivalent Bachelor Degree, which would normally take 4 years.
Maureen also talked about the changing shape of CITB Scotland and encouraged its members to have an active voice in the future, as CITB want to hear what the industry training needs are going forward.
Trudy took the stage next and gave us an insight into each candidate as they came up to receive their certificate. As Trudy said on the night “I am so proud of each and every one of them and it’s nights like this that make all of us at Esteem love what we do. To be a part of someone’s journey and help them grow and develop as a manager is a unique and wonderful thing.”
One thing that stood out for the rest of the Esteem team was the support that each candidate had from their family. Wives, husbands, children and even grandchildren came to cheer on the graduates, with one lady telling us that her father didn’t even want to come, but she insisted he should have his moment in the spotlight, to celebrate his achievement. Support from your employer is always key, but ‘it takes a village’ and we were honoured to have the whole family represented at the celebration event.
Thanks to all that attended and watch this space for future funded programmes – perhaps its your time to shine?!
