Construction SMEs – Keeping it in the family!
Our first 2016 London NVQ6 Construction Site Management development programme started last Friday and Trudy was struck by the fact that all the candidates came from SME family businesses.
T & E Neville Ltd opened their doors, in Luton, over 140 years ago and have shown themselves to be pretty adept at adjusting along the way. The company is still in the hands of the original family owners and they have shown themselves to be just as committed to encouraging the same growth and development in their team, with 4 of their staff joining this programme.
The Gunite Group, based in St Ives, has had a member of the founding family leading the company from its beginnings over 20 years ago and they have now welcomed a second generation into the thriving family business – one of which joins us on the programme.
Focus Building Solutions may be newer to the block, but they are holding their own within the competitive London market with a number of family members working together to keep them strong and fresh in what is undeniably a tough market.
DGP Logistics is another London based family business and Chris, who is starting his NVQ6, is joined in the business by both his dad and brother.
Construction is a unique and specialised industry, so it’s not surprising that so many SME’s are keeping it in the family! We look forward to welcoming the newest candidates to the Esteem family and guiding them through their qualification.
We’ll leave you with this lovely article from an American woman who reflects on what it was like to grow up in a family owned Construction business and how that has shaped her into the person she is today.
