Our Site of the Month: Tiree Pier

Well July was certainly a busy month for the team. We have been up and down the country providing support to our candidates who are working towards their SVQ level 3 or 4 qualification. This has included Tarbert, Fort William, Oban, Aberdeen, Elgin and Ayr to list just a few! With this, it has been a difficult decision to select our ‘Site of the Month.’ However, the site which wins the prize is… Tiree pier.
Last week Debbie visited Andy, who is currently on our SVQ Level 4: Construction Site Management programme, at his site on Tiree pier. It required Debbie going by land, air and sea. Definitely not your typical commute!

Not only was the location one of excitement but the project itself warranted the Site of the Month prize.
The project scope is to check the thickness of the piles supporting the pier. In order to do this Andy and his team are currently cleaning the rust off above sea level and a diving team are doing the same below. Once the rust is removed Andy will then be able to survey the thickness of the piles and provide feedback to the client. The existing piles will also have new steel jackets put on them to protect them.
Talk about a very interesting location as well as project! Stay tuned to find out where August takes us.
