Martina Visits Sibbald Training’s “Constructionarium”

Last week our Operations Director Martina visited the Sibbald Training HQ and took part in the “Constructionarium”.

Martina was lucky enough to be invited to visit Sibbald Training HQ to spend a morning on-site with 2 groups of University students who were taking part in the “Constructionarium”.

Below, Martina tells us all about what took place:

“The students were split across 2 mini projects; A wind farm – to erect 2 wind turbines and a replica bridge across a pond.  Each project has a project team, who work to a week-long programme. The students are given roles (e.g. H&S Manager, PM etc) and spend a week working on the site to completion. They even start the week by budgeting to cost for the job, ordering materials and report back to their client at the end of the week. Today was a particularly busy day on-site as the concrete was arriving ready to be poured – so it was all go!”

Students at the “Constructionarium” getting on-site experience

“I think this is such a fantastic way to offer Construction students on-site experience and make it as realistic as possible. They all seemed to really enjoy it whilst having the opportunity to get a feel for different site roles.”

Later that afternoon Martina got to try her hand at Sibbald’s virtual excavator – even with expert Colin assisting every step of the way – it was no mean feat and gave an excellent preview of how skilled plant drivers are.
