Building Better People is a series of modules for Site Supervisors and Managers. Each module is based on standards set by CITB for Leadership and Management. You can pick from the list below and make your own development programme.
Certification is provided for each module.
Modules
Leadership and management practice in construction
- Purpose: The purpose of this standard is to enable the delegate to develop knowledge and understanding of using leadership and management skills to ensure safety and quality requirements and appropriate standards of behaviour are met when achieving project and work plans as required by a practising or potential team leader or site supervisor.
- Duration: 2 days
This module will ensure you:
- Understand the difference between being a Leader and a Manager
- Know how to demonstrate appropriate standards of behaviour
- Ensure safety and quality standards are met
Understanding organising and delegating in construction
- Purpose: The purpose of this standard is to enable the delegate to develop knowledge and understanding of organising and delegating in the workplace as required by a practising or potential site supervisor.
- Duration: 1 day
This module will ensure you:
- Understand the importance of organisation and delegation
- Know how to delegate effectively
- Achieve work objectives through effective time management and organisation.
Achieving performance through People
- Purpose: The purpose of this standard is to enable the delegate to develop knowledge and understanding of using leadership and inter-personal skills to establish effective teams and achieve high levels of performance through people as required by a practising or potential site supervisor.
- Duration: 2 days
This module will ensure you:
- Know how to build an effective team
- Have the communication tools to lead and influence your team
- Understand the importance and process for coaching for success.
Solving Problems and Making Decisions
- Purpose: The purpose of this standard is to enable the delegate to develop the knowledge to be able to solve problems and make decisions as required by a practising or potential site supervisor.
- Duration: 1.5 days
This module will ensure you:
- Clearly define a problem by outlining its nature, extent and consequences.
- Collect and analyse data to develop a suitable solution.
- Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate decisions while ensuring clear communication.
Understanding training and coaching in construction
- Purpose: The purpose of this standard is to enable the delegate to develop knowledge and understanding of training and coaching as required by a practising or potential site supervisor.
- Duration: 1 day
This module will ensure you:
- Provide training appropriate to the workplace
- Understand how to coach an individual for success
- Encourage individual development in line with work objectives.
Planning and monitoring work in construction
- Purpose: The purpose of this standard is to enable the delegate to develop an understanding of effective planning and monitoring of work as required by a practising or potential site supervisor.
- Duration: 1 day
This module will ensure you:
- Know how to plan your resources on site
- Continually improve quality and team performance, deliver projects.

How is the CITB Grant Claimed?
- Send us your delegate details and your 7-digit CITB registration number.
- When a delegate completes a module, we update the Construction Training Register.
- You receive the grant payment within one month of the delegate completing the course.
