‘Steemies’ Year-end Team Day celebrates success and focuses on the future

Open, two-way communication forms a core element from the coaching and support tools with which we pave the way for our SVQ candidates to succeed in securing their career-boosting vocational qualifications. You may already be aware that the Esteem Training team likes to do considerably more than simply talk the talk.

We like to walk the walk, and that collaborative spirit took centre stage during our latest quarterly half-day Team Day, held via Microsoft Teams, where we discussed everything that has impacted the business over the past year including how we’ve, collectively, performed against target.

As a company, we set aside eight days annually for quarterly Team Days and individual development sessions. These are important investments in our team, scheduled to take place on Wednesdays, actively involving all 20 team members.

Despite the pandemic which has wreaked havoc for many businesses, we had some good news to share. This latest Team Day followed our financial year close on 31 March, and we celebrated surpassing some key company milestones. In the year to 31 March, 2021 a record 272 candidates started with us. We also added three new team members, and even turned a modest profit amid a seriously challenging economic climate.

Trudy Mackenzie, Esteem Training’s founder and director commented: “This latest Team Day featured a packed agenda, in which we reviewed the sales team’s statistics together with our strategic partnership agreements. Next came our revenue projections for the new financial year, which involves the whole team signing up to key performance targets.

“Though clearly desirable, revenue projections are never our sole focus. Maintaining the team’s well-being, particularly promoting sound mental health, is paramount. And so our three breakout sessions centred around developing the company’s Diversity and Inclusion plan, reviewing and updating our SWOT analysis, and a new blue sky thinking workshop titled ‘Eggs in Plenty Baskets’ where we identified potential new revenue streams.”

A busy day but one which energised and motivated, demonstrating how much we value our team’s commitment, expertise and important contribution to the business. We’re also taking part in some ambitious new community-focused training initiatives with respected partners, but more of that in a separate blog post later this year.
