Construction Site Supervision

SVQ in Construction Site Supervision (SCQF 7)

The Modern Apprenticeship in Construction Site Supervision (CSS), consists of 4 component parts and includes the Construction Site Supervision SVQ, Industry Training, Core skills and Meta Skills.  This programme is funded via Skills Development Scotland and aimed at working construction supervisors of multiple trades, who reside in Scotland, are currently in employment, and looking to gain a recognised qualification.

Our programmes are funded via Skills Development Scotland Modern Apprenticeships.

This developmental programme consists of;

  • Toolkit workbook which covers 50%+ of the qualification  
  • E-Portfolio with resources and templates   
  • 4 x 6 hour face to face workshops 
  • Onsite visit  
  • 1:1 sessions with an Assessor 

No prior qualifications are required to undertake this qualification however if a candidate has SSSTS then this qualification is the ideal next step in their development. 

If a candidate has already achieved the Occupational Work Supervision qualification, it can sometimes be used as evidence to help attain this qualification.

We also offer the Construction Site Supervision programme outside of Scotland.

1. What is the Construction Site Supervision programme?

It’s a SVQ in Construction Site Supervision (SCQF Level 7) designed to formally recognise and develop the skills of supervisors who oversee work on construction sites.

2. Who is this programme for?

It’s aimed at current site supervisors responsible for coordinating multiple trades or squads on construction sites.

3. Do I need any prior qualifications to join?

No formal prior qualifications are required to start however, holding SMSTS or Occupational Work Supervision qualifications can be beneficial.

Programme Delivery & Structure
4. How is the programme delivered?

The programme includes:

  • A toolkit workbook covering over half the qualification
  • An e-portfolio with templates and resources
  • Four face-to-face workshops (about 6 hours each)
  • A site visit
  • Regular one-to-one sessions with an assessor
5. Is this full-time study?

No – it’s workplace-based, allowing learners to build evidence and complete tasks while still working.

6. Are there tests or exams?

Assessment is competence-based, using real workplace evidence, discussions and portfolio items rather than formal written exams. (Typical for SVQs)

In Scotland, this programme is commonly funded through the Skills Development Scotland Modern Apprenticeship scheme. We can also help explore funding options outside Scotland.
