Attending our Build a Better Leader programme

Our Business Development Coordinator, Tracey Sinclair, was given the opportunity to attend the final session of one of our Build a Better Leader Programmes. She was given the full Delegate experience and she kindly took some time out to write a blog post which we thought would provide our readers with more information about what it is like to be a part of this trailblazing Leadership Development programme, as well as the impact that the qualification has had on them!
Tracey’s experience of the Build a Better Leader Programme:
I was fortunate enough to be invited to participate in our current Build a Better Leader Programme and join the four delegates on our Central Programme for their final workshop, and let me tell you – it did not disappoint!
My role within the Business Development team is to speak with potential delegates and employers to build awareness of our Leadership Development Programme; the content, qualification, fast track route to CIOB and the personal growth and development to be gained from working with the support and experience of Esteem Training. On paper this programme reads very well indeed, and so it should, however, even this pales when compared with actually being there and being part of the BBL experience!
The atmosphere was relaxed and so conversational, not the intense setting I had imagined for this level of qualification. Each delegate contributed and shared their own experiences, relating their varying businesses, (which ranged from flooring/building/plant contractors to waterproofing and insulation specialists), to the requirements of the qualification. Ideas and helpful suggestions were in abundance throughout the day from everyone involved, which allowed me to gain a real understanding of how powerful and effective the peer-to-peer learning within this environment is.
It was brilliant to see how far this great bunch of people had come in only six months and how much they have each taken from the programme.

Each delegate presented their Innovation Project, which they had worked on over the duration of the programme, with the unwavering support of our Esteem BBL Central Team – our founder and Leadership expert Trudy MacKenzie, BBL Support Rosie Neill and Assessor/IV Hamid Jamali.
Each delegate demonstrated that their business was already seeing the benefits of the Innovative ideas that they had now implemented. Some already making and saving money, others enjoying business improvements that have had a positive impact on their employees and apprentices.
To say I was impressed was an understatement. One of the delegates started their journey with no desire to stand up and present to anyone, ever. On Tuesday they stood and presented their Project like a true pro – PowerPoint and everything!!! I was blown away and immensely proud.
I very much look forward to seeing Laura, Stephen, Craig and Ian holding their well earned SVQ5/SCQF11 Construction Senior Management Certificates and for those applying for membership, the MCIOB letters after their name!

If you would like to join Esteem for our next Build a Better Leader Programme, I would be delighted to discuss this with you. We have an Aberdeen Programme planned to start in August, and London and Glasgow in November.
