Update: Occupational Work Supervision and CSCS Gold Card

CSCS have released an update regarding the SVQ Level 3: Occupational Work Supervision (OWS) route to a CSCS Gold Card. Click here to be taken to the CSCS website.
Background
According to CSCS, OWS was introduced “in response to demand from industry for a progression route for team leaders and supervisors where there was no suitable vocational occupational or supervisory qualification available at level 3.” Construction Site Supervision was considered too broad in its scope and demand for specialist supervisors.
To achieve a CSCS Gold Card via this qualification, candidates must provide evidence of relevant experience/competence in their occupational area. From 15th April 2019, CSCS announced they would not issue a CSCS Gold Card unless this evidence is provided. We have outlined this previously – click here.
Agreed Endorsements
Since this announcement, there has been some confusion regarding the list of endorsed occupations for which CSCS will issue a Gold Supervisory card. This list can be found at: https://www.citb.co.uk/standards-and-delivering-training/training-standards/nvq-svq-standards/occupational-work-supervision/
What if your occupation is not endorsed?
CSCS advice that if an individual, employer, awarding body or card scheme is in any doubt as to whether a particular qualification is acceptable under one of the endorsed routes please contact standards.qualifications@citb.co.uk
In addition, if you haven’t got a S/NVQ L2 in a relevant trade – you will need to complete an SVQ3 in Construction Site Supervision in order to apply for your Gold card. This will also apply to anyone renewing their CSCS Gold Supervisors card. To find out more about our upcoming CSS programmes contact Andy (andy@esteemtraining.com).
