Supporting Mental Health Awareness Week

Esteem are supporting Mental Health Awareness Week. We are here to support all our candidates and clients.

Due to the challenges we all face with COVID-19, instances of mental health are on the rise. As employers, we have a duty of care to support our workforce. We can direct you to some great resources and contacts if you or your workforce is ever in need of support.

In many industries, the stigma around mental health is reducing. More and more companies are now providing support including life coaching, wellbeing programmes and mental health first-aiders.

Despite positive steps taken tackle the stigma within Construction, it remains a huge challenge to overcome. Every single working day in the UK, two construction workers take their own life, whilst stress, depression or anxiety accounts for a fifth of all work-related illness.

Seeking to reduce these stats are some great charities that support the mental health of Construction workers.

THE Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity, provide the Construction workforce and their families a confidential 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline. Compared to this time last year, calls to the charity’s helpline has increased by 55%. This shows how big an impact the covid-19 pandemic has on workers levels of anxiety and stress. In order to aid the levels of stress and anxiety for workers, The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity will be hosting a series of free online mental health training workshops later this month.

Mates in Mind is a UK charity raising awareness, addressing the stigma of poor mental health and promoting positive mental wellbeing across different industries but focuses on Construction. Mates in mind are supporting Construction workers now more than ever has they help the industry navigate through the effects of COVID-19.

Samaritans is a suicide prevention charity. They have launched an urgent appeal to help support anyone struggling with mental health or concerned about friends and family during this pandemic.  Samaritans offer listening and support to people and communities in times of need without any ounce of judgement or pressure.

If you are struggling with your mental health please call the Construction Industry Helpline on 0345 605 1956 or contact a Samaritan on 116 123 or you can email jo@samaritans.org
